Fence Gate Designs

Think about a fence gate as a clothing accessory. You wouldn’t wear a bright orange tie to a formal occasion, nor would you slip into a pair of sneakers if you’re invited to be a bridesmaid. Same goes with fence gates. You’re looking for something that works well with things like the style of your house and the fence itself. Should the gate offer full privacy or can it be airy and open? Also, is the gate only for foot traffic or will it need to accommodate a large vehicle?

  1. 1.Wood Gates

Gates made from lumber have the advantage of being either classic, modern, expensive or economical. These structures look most natural with wood or stone fences. Are you looking for a single panel or a grand, two panel gate? Either way, with the right stain and hardware, a wood gate can give a sophisticated look or meet a simply practical purpose that’s easy on your wallet.

  2. The biggest plus for chain link gates over wooden gates is that termites hate them. Not being the prettiest of all the other choices of gates, they make up for that failing in other ways.
  3. 2.Wrought Iron Gates

Wrought iron production is all but non-existent on a commercial scale. What you see as garden furniture or gates are actually made of steel. The reason people still call this look “wrought” is because they are wrought or worked by hand. But it would actually be more accurate to call this style “wrought mild steel.” Unfortunately, that name doesn’t roll-off the tongue all that well.

Not known for privacy, wrought iron gates are excellent choices if you want durability. Another advantage of this type of gate is that the body of the structure can take on many types of design. From straight spears to intricate patterns, wrought iron gates can add detail to an otherwise practical fence.

  4. 3.Vinyl Gates

ese all-weather gates are very low maintenance solutions. And with styles have a wrought-iron look, picket fence, ranch and glass view you have a wide variety to choose from. These types of gates are quite popular and can be as durable as wood.

  5. 4.Chain Link Gates

The biggest plus for chain link gates over wooden gates is that termites hate them. Not being the prettiest of all the other choices of gates, they make up for that failing in other ways. You can install them quickly, you don’t have to worry about the gate during bad storms and you never have to maintain them.

Putting up a gate means you’ll have to bury a couple of poles for support, but these can be installed in less than a half-hour.

  6. 5.Esoteric Gates

There are more types of fence gates than just the ones we mentioned above. Bamboo fence gates and mixed medium gates (like a stone and steel combination) can be unique solutions to the “doors” of your fence.

As noted, there are many criteria when deciding on a fence. One not mentioned may be your best guide – price. However, even on a tight budget, a fitting gate for your fence is within reach. Let your creativity work with your pocketbook, and you’ll get something you like that’s aesthetically pleasing and durable, too.
