A customer submits a request.

Using Pro Referral, or with the help of a Store Associate at The Home Depot, a customer submits a job request.

We match the request with qualified professionals.

Each pro’s ratings and reviews, responsiveness, availability, and location help us make up to three ideal matches.

The customer compares matched pros.

Customers can compare profiles, verify credentials, read reviews, and select the pros they feel are qualified to complete the job.

We notify each pro of the job request.

Matched pros must follow up with the customer by phone or through messaging. The Pro Referral mobile app makes it easy to respond from anywhere right away.

The customer selects a pro.

Once selected, be sure to contact the customer to work out scheduling and other details so you can get right to work.

The pro completes the work.

When the job is done, the customer will be asked to provide feedback, which helps build your profile so you can win more jobs.

1. Why should I choose Pro Referral?

We help qualified pros build a better business by connecting them with local customers, including in-store shoppers at The Home Depot. With effective job management tools and a convenient mobile app, Pro Referral makes it easier than ever to respond quickly to requests, increase your online presence, and win more jobs.

2. How do I sign up?

You can apply here by providing a few basic details about your business and consenting to a background check. We’ll check to see if we have openings in your area for pros with your skills. If we do, you'll be prompted to fill out a more comprehensive application. Once you have submitted the application, we will review it and run a background check on the business owner. This process will take a few days, but we’ll be in touch as soon as we have the results. After your application is approved, we’ll help you build your profile so you can start receiving job requests immediately.

3. How much does it cost?

There is no fee to use Pro Referral; it is a point-based service powered by The Home Depot. Each job request costs between 40 and 80 points, and you earn 2 points for every $1 you spend shopping in-store. We’ll keep track of the points you earn by linking to your Home Depot Pro Xtra account, so you can easily check your points balance anytime online or using the Pro Referral mobile app.

4. How do I receive job requests?

When Pro Referral matches you to a job request, we'll notify you immediately with an opportunity to reach out to the customer about their project. You should contact them directly to discuss the details either by phone or using Pro Referral’s messaging tool. Your messages will be immediately delivered to the customer’s inbox. If you aren’t available or able to accept the request, you can choose to pass on it instead of following up with the customer. You’re welcome to change your notification settings in your profile at any time to ensure you don’t miss out on your matched job requests.

5. How do I get paid?

You collect payment directly from the customer and keep 100% of the job price.

6. Who decides my work radius?

You do! You determine your work radius and can make changes as applicable within your profile. This means you won't receive job requests in locations outside of your specified area. You're welcome to make your work area as large or as small as you'd like.

7. How do I get matched for a job?

Matches are based on how well the customer’s request aligns with your skill set, work radius, and availability. Your responsiveness and customer reviews are important, too–making contact quickly and encouraging your customers to leave feedback helps ensure you are matched to as many jobs as possible in the future.

8. Does the lowest price always win?

There is no perfect price point. You should offer the most competitive price possible for the job, but customers consider many other factors, such as jobs completed, reviews, qualifications, and the amount of detail provided in the profile.

9. Can I have more than one service profile?

Absolutely! You can create up to two skill profiles. For example, if you’re both a professional painter and a handyman, you can be matched to jobs in both categories. If you've gone through the approval process for your first skill profile and have been accepted, you'll have to reapply and be cleared for the subsequent specialty you want to add.
